Stewing in Stress?

The following paragraphs were originally written as a social media post. I remember at the time feeling like, ‘that was more of a blog post’, and here I am a number of weeks down the line, having recently updated the website, added a blog, and given the opportunity to share in that way too. Thanks for taking the time to read more about overcoming stress.

I’ve learned so much from facilitating sessions and seminars for a very diverse range of people over the years. Whether it’s a group that most people would perceive to be on top of the world, like business execs or athletes, or a group who may be perceived to be just about getting back on their feet, there’s always a huge commonality: Stress.

Excess stress affects every 21st Century person, we’re not well adapted to glowing screens, bills, traffic and other trappings of modern day living that we haven’t evolved for. It’s not that those things are inherently bad but they stimulate humans into an ‘active’ mode that is meant for fighting or fleeing, but we don’t really get an outlet for it, and are left to stew in stress hormones.

When I look back at the work I’ve been facilitating, even back to the cold water and community work with my Dash & Splash sea swimming events, I recognised a pattern; 1) Reconnect with the present moment. 2) Release excess stress. 3) Reset body and mind.. It mitigates the worst of the impact from 21st century living / modern stresses.

People who have a regular practice down-regulating from stress build resilience against future stresses (on a nervous system level, developing vagal tone). I’m pulling all of this together in simple language and the working title is BodyMind Reset™, and I’m excited to share more with a total update to the website on the near horizon.
